Final 2019 South Africa trip update

As most of the South Africa team finished our long road home Friday night, we wanted all of you to know how much we appreciated all your support. Prayers, finances, suitcases, driving, and more. It takes all of God’s people to fulfill His mission for us “go and make disciples”.

In our time at Hamba Ekukhayeni we taught children stories from the Bible, taught adults how to pray and share their faith in Jesus, preached the Word and built a prototype hawk proof (we hope) chicken cage. Many came to a saving knowledge of Christ, had prayer for healing and freedom from evil spirits. We had a lot of time for fellowship with our Zulu friends and visited many in their homes and pre schools. The whole team taught, prayed and served in the ministry of Walk in the Light. It was a blessing to serve with God’s people in this place!

In Christ, Mike for the team

February 24th Mission Trip Update

Tina here, or Teener as Erlo would say.

Friday we had only two from the team go with the Zulus hut to hut.  We want to replicate ourselves.  Having them do more and more the ministry of visiting their neighbors, and with less and less of us.   This is how it will be when we are back in the states.  The team (of 13 Zulus, Debby, Kim, and Ron driving) didn’t get back till after 2pm.  We were beginning to get concerned they wouldn’t make it back before the children’s ministry.  Jessica taught the story of Ruth and how God provided for her and Naomi, after her husband and sons died.  About 145  children were attentive and answered the questions about the story and about the Evangi-Cube!

On Saturday Char set up the carnival.  They played all kinds of games!  We were able to encourage and bless children that are rarely touched or loved.  Just a pat on the back, and “good job” goes a long way in a culture that diminishes the value of children.  In the afternoon Ron drove the ladies and Tim to  Estcourt out to the rug factory for some shopping time.  There was thunder storm with lightning and hail the size of a quarter back at Walking in the Light while the shoppers were out and about.  We are praising God that the hail did not destroy the crops, as it did for the last two years.  Farming God’s Way is their income and their food.  Please pray for the hail to stay away from the fields so the people can enjoy the blessings from their hard work. Today is Sunday evening and you will be just starting church at Elevation as we wind down our day.

This morning we were pleasantly surprised with four ladies arriving at our gate.  Nunu, who we saw the first day at Dalton Bridge and has ministered with Erlo for years, had not been back at Walking in the Light Church for three years.  She and three others that were a part of the ministry in Dalton Bridge before Erlo established the church here, traveled for TWO hours, walking and taking taxis to get to church today.  We were elated and full of joy o see our Cecees (see- sees or sisters)  in Christ again.  Mike preached a message to the adults, and many people asked to be prayed over.  Tina led the children’s ministry today.  She talked about how Jesu is the only Way to heaven and the story of the four men who helped their paralyzed friend get to Jesu.  Jesu looked at the paralyzed man and said “your sins are forgiven”. The children heard that Jesu is able to forgive their sins and heal them, just as He healed the paralyzed man!  The children helped to tell the story of salvation through the Evangi-Cube.  They are hearing with their ears how God is the only ONE true God, and that no other gods can do what Jesu can do.

We have had SO many opportunities to love on and serve the Zulu people.  Thank you for your prayers!  God is on the move in this village and is preparing His people… so that all Africa shall be saved!

Feb 21 South Africa Mission Trip Update

The lord answered our prayers regarding the children’s ministry! Two of the respected older Zulu men have restored order and separated the older kids from the younger. Still had about 120 or so kids but seems much more calm. We are able to pray with the children while sharing the Bible stories and activities. Char shared the story of Rahab and the Israelite spies, Kim shared the Samaritan Woman at the Well and Sharon shared the Prodigal son. We review all the stories and the children seem to be grasping the stories as well as the Evange-Cube. We had about 20 or so kids pray to receive Jesus as Lord!

Kim led the mid week Bible study out of James and it was well received. About 30 people from the village along with our group, many came for prayer and many prayed with and for each other.

Today (Thursday) was church on wheels we took 13 of us in a Land Rover to a neighboring village and shared the Gospel and prayed with people who had some connection to Hamba Ekukhanyeni. Sobering to see the physical and spiritual poverty in some of the places. One young man prayed to receive Jesus as a direct result of the training! Very encouraging! One old Granny was interested in marriage with Mike but when she was told he was married she wanted to know about Mike’s father.

Friday , Saturday and Sunday will all be children’s teaching days as well as hut to hut visits to people who are connected to the church here. Been a little light on pictures so I am hoping to be able to send some Friday or Saturday.

South Africa Team’s February 18th update

Update from the SA team:

Sunday Church was a packed house as Ron shared the story of the Good Samaritan from Luke. It was a really blessed time as many people responded to the invitation for prayer. We had a wonderful time of fellowship after the worship service. Israel and Rachel Moore were prayed for and given a loving send off as this has been their church while in South Africa. Tim shared the Good Samaritan story also with the children’s group, about 70 kids in all and the children really seemed to understand the story as they were able to answer all his questions regarding the story and the Evange-cube.

Monday was a review of the adult teaching on “Who is my neighbor” by Ron. During the training as we were practicing sharing the gospel one of the men in the training prayed to receive Christ! As we went out in two groups we were able to share the Word and pray with about 10 different families in their homes. One of those was a Sangoma (witch doctor) who also prayed to receive Christ! The people from Walk in the Light did most of the praying and sharing the Word which was one of the purposes for the adult training. A very encouraging day! Monday afternoon was children’s ministry again with about 120 kids. Char shared the story of Rahab and the Israelite spies out of Joshua. The story was well done and received by some of the children but we need to separate the older and younger kids.

We appreciate your prayers for wisdom on our behalf as we seek a good solution. We have four more children’s ministry days scheduled as well as a carnival day.

The Mission Team Has Made It To South Africa

Mike Snyder has sent our first update about their travels and first day.

We had really smooth travel although long! Bart, John and Jamie delivered us to SFO w all luggage right on time and our beautiful glitter ID ribbons made our luggage easy to find and check all the way through, thanks to all of them and Deborah!
We had a long Turkish coffee session in the wee hours at Istanbul , literally so thick the stir stick stood straight up! Almost strong enough for me! All flights were on time and we arrived with everyone and all luggage in Durban SA Thursday afternoon to be met by Erlo and the Moores. It was good to catch up with all of them and the jump into Durban commute traffic on the wrong side of the road, just what was needed, but we made it to Hamba Ekukhanyeni with no trouble.
Friday we set up the circus tent. It went well with a couple challenges, wind and no rope experts except Ron. No one flew away and it held after a good test of lightning, rain, and wind. We were able to get settled, organize all the teaching supplies from this year and several previous years leftovers, our first session with kids is Sunday.
We start adult teaching today (Saturday) with Debby, Joanne, and Mike leading. We have had some good times of prayer and a good sharing/overview from Erlo about where the ministry is right now. Ron is leading the team devotions with a focus on “what is your calling”. Well started and praying the Lord clarifies for all of us. We are asking that you would pray that our words and actions will speak God’s truth into the lives of those we meet and teach as well as our own.
Our love to all of you, Mike for the team

The 2019 South Africa Mission Trip Team is Off!

At 2pm on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 a group saw the South Africa mission trip team off. We talked with each other while loading the trucks, and prayed for them before they left. They will be heading to SFO and flying out tonight. It’ll be a lot of traveling and long plane rides before they reach their destination, but it’ll be worth it.
